About the role

Latitude is seeking an experienced Healthcare Risk Manager for an interim engagement with the legal and risk management department of a large Chicago health system. The successful candidate will provide immediate, hands-on support across a broad range of hospital risk management matters while the health system conducts its search for a permanent Director of Risk Management and Insurance.

This role is open to both experienced healthcare risk professionals and attorneys with significant hospital risk management experience. A JD is preferred but not required.

The ideal candidate will have substantial experience working within a hospital or health system and be comfortable independently supporting credentialing and peer review processes, policy development, professional liability matters, insurance matters, and other day-to-day healthcare risk needs.

Basic Requirements

  • ·Significant healthcare risk management experience, preferably within a hospital or multi-hospital health system
  • ·Experience with medical staff credentialing, privileging, and peer review
  • ·Experience identifying, evaluating, and addressing clinical and operational risk issues
  • ·Familiarity with professional liability and other healthcare risk management matters
  • ·Experience reviewing and drafting hospital or healthcare policies and procedures
  • ·Ability to independently review complex information, identify potential issues or red flags, and appropriately escalate matters
  • ·Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • ·Ability to collaborate effectively with Legal, Medical Staff, Patient Safety/Quality, clinical leadership, and other operational stakeholders
  • ·Ability to quickly integrate into an existing department and provide substantive support with limited ramp-up time
  • ·JD preferred but not required; attorneys and non-attorney healthcare risk professionals with relevant experience will be considered

Preferred Qualifications

  • ·Experience supporting risk management within a complex health system
  • ·Experience supporting medical staff credentialing committees and/or Board-level credentialing processes
  • ·Knowledge of multiple lines of healthcare insurance, including professional liability
  • ·Experience assisting with insurance renewals
  • ·Experience working closely with an in-house healthcare legal department
  • ·Broader enterprise risk management experience

Duties of the Healthcare Risk Manager

  • ·Provide day-to-day support across a broad range of hospital and clinical risk management matters
  • ·Review physician, CRNA, and other healthcare provider credentialing and privileging applications to identify potential issues, red flags, or matters requiring further review
  • ·Support medical staff credentialing and peer review processes, including reviewing underlying matters in advance of credentialing and Board committee meetings
  • ·Participate in credentialing, policy, and other relevant committees as appropriate
  • ·Work collaboratively with the Medical Staff Office to help ensure credentialing matters are appropriately reviewed and addressed
  • ·Review, update, and draft health system policies and procedures
  • ·Partner closely with the Legal Department, Patient Safety/Quality, Medical Staff, clinical leadership, and other stakeholders on risk-related matters
  • ·Assist with professional liability and other healthcare risk issues as needed
  • ·Provide support in connection with the health system’s insurance renewal process
  • ·Assist with accumulated projects and other risk management priorities requiring additional bandwidth during the permanent search
  • ·Provide practical and responsive risk management support as new matters arise

Compensation

The annualized compensation range for this position is $180,000 to $220,000. Pay is based on numerous factors including, but not limited to, work experience, qualifications, credentials, location, market supply and demand, and candidate preferences. The compensation listed is an estimate and not guaranteed.
