About the role
About Sunday Club
Sunday Club is a print-first puzzle newspaper — All Games No News. We publish original paper-and-pencil puzzles and ship them monthly to subscribers across the country. We're a small, deliberate studio that cares about craft: clean design, a calm brand, and a fulfillment operation that gets a beautiful product into readers' hands reliably, issue after issue. We're growing, and we're building the operational backbone to grow well.
About the role
We're looking for an Operations Manager to own the health of everything that happens after an issue is made — customer experience, order fulfillment, warehouse operations, and the purchasing and vendor relationships that keep them running.
This is not a queue-clearing role. Our customer and warehouse leads already run their day-to-day well. What we're missing is one person standing above the whole operation as a single connected system — measuring how it performs, seeing where it quietly leaks time or money, and improving how it works. You'll take on the operational ownership our founder currently holds by default, freeing that up so the studio can scale.
You'll report directly to the Founder and lead a small team: a Customer Experience & Fulfillment Lead and a Warehouse Lead.
What you'll own
System health & optimization
• Own Sunday Club's post-production operation — customer experience, fulfillment, and warehouse throughput — as one connected system.
• Lead improvements to how that system works: redesign recurring customer-service issues out of existence, streamline the order-to-doorstep flow, and remove friction between the digital and physical sides of fulfillment.
Metrics & reporting
• Define, build, and maintain reporting on the operation's health — customer metrics (response and resolution time, satisfaction, refund and reship rates) and fulfillment metrics (throughput, cost per shipment, error rate, on-time delivery).
• Report to the Founder on a regular cadence, turning day-to-day operational noise into a clear read on what's working and what needs attention.
Team leadership & operational integration
• Manage and support the Customer Experience & Fulfillment Lead and the Warehouse Lead — the person they turn to when they need a decision, a resource, or a problem solved.
• Own the coordination between print timelines and warehouse scheduling, so production delays are absorbed operationally rather than escalated.
• Resolve cross-functional issues — a staffing hiccup, a printer delay, a customer problem that needs a warehouse judgment call — that would otherwise reach the Founder.
Purchasing & vendor management
• Own every vendor relationship from post-production onward: print and manufacturing, warehouse staffing, packaging, shipping supplies, and carriers.
• Run the purchasing process end to end — reorder triggers, purchase orders, receiving, and invoice reconciliation.
• Negotiate pricing and payment terms that protect cash flow and improve margins.
What we're looking for
Must-haves
• Based in the NYC area and able to work on-site in Brooklyn. This role requires regular physical presence at our studio; it is not remote.
• Hands-on fluency with Shopify and ShipStation — you can operate them daily, audit them, and pull and interpret their data.
• Experience running or managing direct-to-consumer ecommerce operations and fulfillment.
• Experience managing people and/or vendors, with the judgment to make operational calls independently.
• Analytical: comfortable defining metrics, building simple reporting, and using data to drive process change.
• Experience owning purchasing and vendor relationships
Nice-to-haves
• Subscription or recurring-revenue business experience.
• Familiarity with warehouse operations or 3PL coordination.
• Experience with failed-payment recovery (dunning), inventory planning, Klaviyo, or Monday.com.
• An instinct for process design — you see a recurring problem and want to fix the system, not just the instance.
Logistics
• This is a fractional role, around 25 hours a week. That's deliberate — we're looking for someone genuinely senior who can own the whole post-production operation, rather than a full-time hire still growing into it. You'd have real authority over how this operation runs.
• Location: On-site in Brooklyn 2 to 3 days per week
Pay: $50.00 - $60.00 per hour
Application Question(s):
• This role is on-site in Brooklyn 2 to 3 days per week, about 25 hours per week, as a fractional contractor. Does that work for you?
• Do you have ShipStation experience?
