About the role
Company operates several white-label merchant services brands. Each brand runs on a different gateway and front-end processor. We're looking for a senior payments engineer who can build this hands-on (full-stack) or lead it as a fractional CTO.
Deep, hands-on payment gateway and processor integration experience is the #1 requirement. This is not a fit for a generalist web developer who has only dropped in a Stripe checkout.
WHAT YOU'LL BUILD
- 1.Processor API evaluation
- ·Review a processor partner's API and documentation for merchant management: boarding, application status, underwriting, settlement/funding data, reporting, and residuals
- ·Deliver a written gap analysis covering what's possible, what isn't, workarounds, and a recommended architecture
- 1.Gateway integration + self-service payments product
- ·Build Stripe-style self-service tools: embeddable checkout, simple invoicing, and payment links, each branded to the merchant and set up without talking to anyone
- ·Provide a developer sandbox, API keys, and docs so merchants' own developers can add our tools to their sites
- ·Build payment plugins for WooCommerce, BigCommerce, and Magento
- 1.Merchant onboarding
- ·Build a merchant-facing application flow (multi-step, save/resume, document upload)
- ·Map application data to processor PDF applications, auto-send via e-signature (DocuSign), and capture signed documents back
- ·Track each application from submitted to approved to live
- 1.Unified back office
- ·Build one internal interface across multiple gateways and processors to manage the sales and onboarding pipeline and active merchants
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
- ·Production integrations with multiple payment gateways, plus a working understanding of front-end/back-end processor relationships and the ISO / sponsor bank model
- ·Strong grasp of merchant boarding, underwriting, batching/settlement and funding, chargebacks, interchange, and card-present vs. card-not-present
- ·PCI DSS scope reduction: tokenization, hosted fields and iFrames, vaulting
- ·E-commerce payment plugin development (WooCommerce/Magento in PHP, BigCommerce apps)
- ·Experience building developer-facing APIs, sandboxes, and webhooks
- ·Full-stack: modern TypeScript/JS front end; Node or Python back end
NICE TO HAVE
- ·DocuSign API, HubSpot API, Slack integrations
- ·Experience at a PayFac, ISO, gateway, or payments SaaS company
- ·Experience leading small dev teams
ENGAGEMENT
Open to either an individual full-stack builder or a fractional CTO who manages a small team.
TO APPLY
Answer the screening questions and start your proposal with the word "settlement" so we know you read this. Proposals that list gateways and processors you've actually built on will be reviewed first.
