Job Summary
We are seeking a dynamic and strategic Fractional Chief Operating Officer (COO) to partner with executive leadership at small and midsized law firms to drive operational excellence across the organization. Responsibilities
• Lead the firm’s day-to-day administrative operations and serve as a thought partner to the Managing Partner.
• Provide leadership, and direction for administrative staff and key initiatives.
• Support recruiting, hiring, onboarding, and retention of attorneys and staff while strengthening firm culture.
• Establish management processes and operating rhythms (leadership meetings, priorities, accountability, project tracking, KPIs, etc.)
• Successfully oversee the deployment of Clio to create a scalable operational platform for the firm.
• Manage large-scale organizational change initiatives by designing comprehensive change management plans that minimize disruption and maximize adoption.
• Implement process improvements by analyzing operational workflows, identifying bottlenecks, and deploying innovative solutions to streamline activities.
• Lead cross-functional teams through project management initiatives while maintaining clear communication with executive leadership on progress and outcomes.
Experience
• Proven experience in law firm operational excellence initiatives within a senior leadership capacity, preferably as a COO or similar role.
• Strong skills in strategic planning and execution.
• Demonstrated success in managing complex business operations, including budgeting, forecasting, financial management, and profit/loss analysis.
• Strong expertise in project management methodologies along with process improvement techniques such as Lean or Six Sigma.
• Experience leading large-scale organizational change management projects with a focus on minimizing disruption while maximizing benefits.
• Exceptional verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively engage with executives at all levels of the organization.
• Skilled in data analysis for operational insights that inform strategic decisions; proficient in leveraging data-driven tools for performance measurement.
• Track record of managing executive-level teams across multiple functions while fostering leadership development.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously within fast-paced environments while maintaining attention to detail.
• Experience using Clio to manage law firm operations, workflows, reporting, and performance metrics; experience leading or supporting a Clio implementation or transition is strongly preferred.
