Role Description

BMDPC is seeking an experienced Fractional Controller with strong nonprofit accounting, grant management, and financial reporting expertise to support our nonprofit clients throughout the United States.

This is a part-time, hybrid fractional position designed for an experienced finance professional who can provide hands-on Controller-level leadership while working collaboratively with BMDPC's CFO advisors, tax professionals, client executives, and program teams.

The Fractional Controller will oversee and support key accounting and financial management functions, including: • General ledger management • Accounts Receivable, customer billing, and revenue recognition • Accounts Payable and vendor management • Payroll accounting and support • Month-end and year-end close • Bank and balance sheet reconciliations • Financial statement preparation and management reporting • Budget monitoring, forecasting, and variance analysis • Internal controls and accounting process improvements • Audit preparation and support

The role will also provide Controller-level oversight for organizations with complex programs, multiple revenue streams, and significant grant funding.

Grant Accounting & Compliance

Strong hands-on experience with federal, foundation, and philanthropic grants is highly valued, including: • Grant billing, reimbursement requests, and drawdowns • Federal grant financial management and reporting • Restricted and unrestricted fund accounting • Cost allocation methodologies • Grant-specific financial reporting • Budget-to-actual monitoring • Revenue recognition • Grant expenditure tracking • Audit and funder documentation • Compliance with GAAP and applicable federal grant requirements

Technology & Systems

Candidates should be comfortable working in a technology-enabled accounting environment. Experience with several of the following is preferred: • QuickBooks Online • MIP Fund Accounting • Sage Intacct • Bill.com • ADP • Paychex • Paylocity HRIS • Budgeting and financial reporting platforms • Receipt and expense-management systems • Excel and cloud-based collaboration tools

Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field • 5–7+ years of relevant accounting and financial management experience • Prior experience as a Controller, Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager, or senior nonprofit accounting professional • Strong understanding of GAAP, nonprofit accounting, fund accounting, and financial reporting • Demonstrated experience managing grants, restricted funds, and cost allocations • Strong analytical, reconciliation, and problem-solving capabilities • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to timely, accurate reporting • Strong written and verbal communication skills • Ability to communicate financial information effectively to non-financial stakeholders • Ability to manage multiple client engagements and competing priorities • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with CFO advisors and client leadership • CPA or equivalent professional credential is preferred • Fractional, outsourced accounting, or consulting experience is a plus
