Position Overview:
We are seeking a skilled Accountant - Profit Partner to provide fractional CFO services to small business ecommerce business owners. This is not a traditional corner-office CFO role, but rather a hands-on, deeply involved financial partner who helps small business owners navigate day-to-day financial decisions while building sustainable long-term growth in their businesses.
Key Revenue Driving Responsibilities and Success Metrics:
1.Inventory & Working Capital Management including client meetings to guide decisions around:
- ·Review current inventory processes and recommend system improvements which might include better spreadsheet options, implementation of Inventory Management Systems or Enterprise Resource Planning systems or process adjustments within the client system.
- ·Review current inventory accounting processes and implement improvements where necessary working with the bookkeeping team
- ·Optimize inventory levels to balance cash flow with sales opportunities
- ·Model inventory financing needs for seasonal businesses
- ·Calculate optimal order quantities and timing for manufacturing and procurement
- ·Analyze supplier payment terms and their impact on cash flow
- ·Guide decisions on pre-orders, production runs, and seasonal inventory builds
- ·2. Weekly Cash Flow Management, including client meetings discussing:
- ·Review weekly cash flow forecasts prepared by the team with rolling 13-week visibility
- ·Monitor actual vs. projected cash flows and provide real-time adjustments
- ·Identify potential cash flow gaps weeks in advance and develop mitigation strategies
- ·Track and optimize payment timing for vendors, loans, and operational expenses
- ·Model scenarios for seasonal fluctuations and inventory cycles
- ·Meet with clients periodically to review Cash Flow reports and develop new strategies to improve their cash flow.
3. Ongoing Financial Analysis & Advisory, including meeting with the client to review:
- ·Conduct monthly financial statement reviews identifying trends and opportunities
- ·Provide break-even analysis showing path to profitability
- ·Analyze gross margins, operating margins, and identify improvement opportunities
- ·Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) specific to each industry and business model
- ·Guide decisions on advertising spend, staffing levels, and operational investments
- ·Serve as a financial sounding board for major business decisions
- ·Facilitate strategic planning sessions and quarterly business reviews
- ·Analyze potential acquisitions, partnerships, or business expansion opportunities
- ·Guide exit strategy planning and business valuation considerations
- ·Help clients navigate complex decisions around growth vs. profitability trade-offs
4. Additional Activities:
- ·Profit First Implementation, optimization and coaching including customizing PF methodology and monitoring the progress and adjustments needed.
- ·Financial Forecasting & Strategic Planning including developing scenarios based on major business decisions and economic factors and developing reports to be included in client financial statements
- ·Product Profitability Analysis at the sku and portfolio levels to guide clients in growing gross margin
- ·Debt Management & Financing Strategy to develop a debt strategy for their business
- ·Client & Partner Collaboration including meetings with clients' leadership teams, employees, CPAs, and other outside partners (e.g., Clarity software representatives) as needed to support the client relationship and ensure alignment across all parties
- ·Technical Competencies:
- ·Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration
- ·CPA, CMA, or equivalent professional certification preferred
- ·Minimum 5 years' experience in finance or accounting, with preference for small business or fractional CFO experience
- ·Experience with AI tools such as Claude and Advanced Excel/Google Sheets modeling capabilities
- ·Experience with QuickBooks, Xero, or similar accounting platforms
- ·Familiarity with e-commerce platforms (Shopify, Amazon) and their financial reporting
- ·Understanding of inventory management and manufacturing cost accounting
- ·Analytical Skills
- ·Ability to build complex financial models from scratch
- ·Strong understanding of cash flow timing and working capital dynamics
- ·Experience with scenario modeling and sensitivity analysis
- ·Capability to translate complex financial concepts into actionable business insights
- ·Proficiency in creating visual dashboards and reports for non-financial business owners

- ·Remote position with flexible scheduling
- ·Must be available during core business hours
