About the role

Company Description

Palus is a fractional CFO company backed by Y Combinator (W26). We pair growing businesses with a dedicated CFO, and back that CFO with AI that does the repetitive work: pulling the numbers together, keeping the models and the 13-week cash flow current, and answering the client's day-to-day questions in minutes. This allows the CFO to spend their time on judgment and higher-leverage tasks. Our clients are owner-operated businesses doing $1M or more in revenue, funded startups, and operators who recently acquired a company.

Role Description

We are putting together a small group of advisors to help us go deeper into the industries we serve. This is an advisory role, it is not a client-facing CFO position (we will have a separate posting for that). Advisors help us understand how finance works inside these businesses, what owners ask for, how to acquire clients most effectively, and where fractional CFOs earn or lose an owner's trust.

Who we're looking for

People who have done fractional CFO work themselves. That can mean you run or have run a fractional CFO practice, or it can mean you've done it on the side while holding a full-time finance job. If you're the person a friend's company or a family business calls when they need someone to look at the numbers, that counts.

Requirements

  • ·8 or more years in finance or accounting, including time as a CFO, Controller, VP of Finance, or equivalent
  • ·Direct experience providing part-time or fractional CFO support to at least two companies, whether as a business or informally
  • ·Hands-on finance work, ideally in at least one of the industries listed below
  • ·You have built operating models, cash flow forecasts, and annual budgets yourself, from a blank sheet
  • ·You can explain a company's finances to an owner with no finance background and have them leave the conversation knowing what to do next
  • ·CPA, CFA, or MBA is a plus, but not required

Industries we'd like to see

These are not firm requirements, but experience in one or more of these verticals is a plus:

  • ·Real estate: operators, developers, property managers, brokerages, etc.
  • ·Consumer products (CPG), including brands that sell mostly online
  • ·Home services and trades: HVAC, plumbing, electrical, pest control, landscaping, etc.
  • ·Independent medical and dental practices
  • ·Construction and contractors
  • ·Venture-backed software, especially AI companies where compute and token spend is a significant line item
  • ·Entrepreneurship through acquisition (ETA) or search fund-owned companies

We also want to hear from people who have worked with new owners: someone who bought a business (ETA, search fund, or another structure), or a next-generation owner taking over a family business.

What the role involves

  • ·A 30-minute call with our team about once a month
  • ·Occasional questions between calls by email or text
  • ·Introductions, where it makes sense, to business owners and operators in your network
  • ·Input on how we shape the service for your industry

Commitment and compensation

Part-time and remote, anywhere in the US. Expect one to two hours a month. Compensation is cash and/or equity depending on experience and how involved you want to be. We start with a couple of conversations to see if it's a fit.
